Dr. Tony Capps
Executive Pastor

Dr. Tony Capps serves as the Executive Pastor for Mercy Crossing.  His philosophies on church growth and internal organizational structure struck a chord with Pastor Poe when he first heard Dr. Capps speaking at a state conference a number of years ago. He challenged the pastors who were no longer content with mediocrity in their churches or in their personal lives to adopt his principles, build an effective ministry, and have fun doing it.  These principles have produced impressive results in numerous churches, and especially at Mercy Crossing, where the congregation has tripled in size since adopting Family Care Ministries, the key church growth component in Dr. Capps’ book About My Father’s Business.

Dr. Capps holds a Ph.D. in philosophy and a Doctor of Divinity degree.  He was a founding partner of the Christian Purchasing Network, a provider of general products and financial services for churches. He served as the Executive Pastor of Heartland Community Church, an interdenominational church of nearly 4000 members, located in Central Florida, and as Director of Marketing for Pathway Press, an editorial, printing and marketing company in Tennessee. He is also the co-founder, vice-president, and chief financial officer of Ranger Aviation, a fixed-base flight operation in Kissimmee, Florida. Dr. Capps continues consulting through his own company, InVision Solutions, which he founded and still serves as the chief executive officer.

Pastor Tony has been married for 40 years to Pam, his high school sweetheart.  They have two successful children and three young grandchildren who are the light of their lives.  Tony spends his free time walking, reading, and playing on the beach with his grandkids. 

MARK STOCKS
PASTOR OF MUSIC & WORSHIP 

Mark Stocks is the Pastor of Music & Worship for Mercy Crossing. He is also one of our five Family Care Pastors. Mark oversees Mercy Music Ministries which is comprised of The Mercy Music Choir, Praise Team, Rhythm Section and Brass & Woodwind Section. Pastor Stocks and the choir are very active in ministering each Sunday along with outreach ministry in local and regional churches. The Music Department is also active in sponsoring choir retreats, choir tours, seasonal productions and recordings. Pastor Stocks has 21 years of experience in music pastoring within the local Churches of God in North Carolina and Virginia. He has currently served Mercy Crossing for eight years. He attained a Bachelor of Church Music degree at East Coast Bible College in Charlotte, NC and a Master of Church Music degree at Lee University in Cleveland, TN. Mark has extensive training in piano and taught students himself for many years. He was pianist for a total of five years with the East Coast Chorale and Lee University Singers during which time he had the privilege of ministering around the country. Mark comes from a rich heritage of four generations of Spirit-filled believers. He is originally from the sleepy town of Hiddenite, in the foothills of North Carolina. His hobbies include real estate, swimming, basketball, and flea-marketing.

JOHNNY BROWN 
YOUTH PASTOR

Johnny joined the MC family in December of 2008. Born and raised in Martinsville, God truly has had him on the greatest journey of his life. In June of 2009, Johnny became the Youth Pastor of “Inside Out Student Ministries”. He has actively been involved with ministry for nearly eight years serving in many different ministry capacities including college, high school, middle school, finances and evangelism. He has led groups all over the country in spreading the Word of Christ. His heart is to see students radically transformed through the Word. Johnny has his B.A. degree in Church Leadership and Administration through Patten University in Oakland, California. He has also completed “The Mission”, an intense discipleship and leadership program through the International Offices of the Church of God. He plans to further his education by getting his MBA in Counseling through Liberty University.

BJ/Kathy Smith
Children’s Pastors

Raised in Martinsville and Henry County, B.J. and Kathy have always had a heart for the people of this community and especially for the youth and children of this area.  As a teenager, B.J. was called into the ministry.  He taught the Junior High Sunday School class and worked actively to help lead the youth in his church.  Kathy also began teaching Sunday School at that time and leading worship in the children’s ministry.  After college, B.J. served as Youth Pastor for several years at New Hope in Collinsville, and then became the senior pastor there in 2002.  He and Kathy served in this position for 3 ½ years before being led by the Lord to come to Mercy Crossing to learn and train under Pastors Jackie and Sheree Poe. In July of 2007, B.J. and Kathy became the Children’s Pastors here at Mercy Crossing with Kathy also filling the position of Church Receptionist since August of 2008.  Their desire is to see children find a true, lasting relationship with the Lord.  They believe that when you reach a child through love, fun and music at an early age, that child will then be able to by-pass many of the things that life throws at this generation.  B.J. and Kathy are very excited to be in the process of overseeing the building of a new 15,000 square foot facility that will serve as a place of worship and learning for the children of Mercy Crossing and will be opening around the first of 2010. 

The Smiths have 3 sons:  Joshua, Jordan and Justin.  Their “spare” time is spent in sports, good books, watching movies and outdoor activities.  
 

LEANNE BRAY 
FAMILY CARE PASTOR/COMMUNICATIONS

LeAnne grew up at Mercy Crossing (then known as Martinsville Church of God). Her parents, Charlie and Ann Phillips, have been members since the 1950’s. During the late 1990’s LeAnne completed a ministry internship at Rocky Mount Church of God and was then added to their full time pastoral staff for the next four years. While visiting Mercy Crossing for a baby dedication one Sunday, she knew the Spirit was telling her it was time to come back to her home church. She began as a full time Family Care Pastor and has served in that position for the past six years. Her other duties involve running sound and overseeing the Sound Department, heading up the Communications Department, assisting with the assimilation of guests to Mercy Crossing by overseeing the Ushers, Greeters and Welcome Team, and teaching the New Horizons Membership Class. LeAnne is married to Larry Bray who serves as an usher and is a member of the Mercy Crossing Sanctuary Choir. He also heads up the Know Mercy Bassmasters. LeAnne has two daughters, Autumn Clark and Kaelyn Bray. She enjoys reading, fishing, watching football (especially the Dallas Cowboys!), current events, Bible study and spending time with her family.

PAM HOPKINS 
OFFICE ADMINISTRATOR

Pam began working as a volunteer in the church office in 1999. She was hired to fill a clerical position in March of 2000. She now fills the position of Office Administrator. Contributions, payables, and overseeing the church facilities are among her duties. Although she works with numbers on a daily basis, the people of the church are her passion as well. Being a part of this church family from an infant has given her a heart for the needs and concerns of the Mercy Crossing family. She is married to Rickey Hopkins who is involved in several ministries of the church. They have a daughter, Tina, who is married to Eric Arrington. They have blessed Pam and Rickey with three beautiful grandsons, Nathan, Seth, and Evan who are the fourth generation of their family to be a part of Mercy Crossing. One of their greatest joys is to worship with their family each week.

Dominique Wilt
Director of Operations, Christian Academy

Dominique Wilt begins this school year as the new Director of Operations for the Mercy Crossing Christian Academy.  She holds a Master’s Degree in Holistic Education and a Bachelor of Science degree in Bible and Interdisciplinary Studies, with a focus on Elementary Education K-8 from Johnson Bible College in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Dominique has been serving in the ministry for the last 11 years, 9 of those years along side her husband, Bart Wilt. Dominique and Bart are currently the Children and Youth Ministers at Stella Christian Church in Patrick Springs. Dominique and Bart have two beautiful sons, David and Josiah.  Their life focus is to “Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord” Hebrews 12:14.
